UMC Governing Board to Name Interim CEO
University Medical Center’s Governing Board will call a special meeting on Friday, December 5, 2014 to discuss plans to name an Interim UMC CEO.

“On Friday, the Board will discuss naming current Chief Operating Officer Mason VanHouweling to the post as Interim CEO,” said UMC Governing Board Chairman John O’Reilly. “Mason has been vital during the recent renaissance at UMC, building new volume and key service lines while cutting expenses to taxpayers and simultaneously keeping a watchful eye to ensure we are providing quality patient care at our hospital.”

Lawrence Barnard is stepping down from UMC to become the President of the San Martin campus for Dignity Healthcare.

“Lawrence impressed me from the beginning. He’s a relatively young executive who has quickly risen to the top of every organization he has been associated with and this is a superb opportunity for him,” O’Reilly said. “Lawrence showed great courage as UMC’s CEO, creating positive momentum during a significant time in healthcare with an ever changing landscape. He was able to make monumental progress through streamlining services and increasing revenue in areas that historically have remained untouched. We are extremely fortunate now to have Mason in the wings to continue these improvements as we work to ensure UMC’s vitality as the leading academic medical center in Nevada.”

UMC’s Governing Board will hold a special meeting on Friday, December 5th at 9:00 am to discuss naming an Interim CEO. The meeting will be held at 901 Rancho Lane, inside the Emerald Room.
