UMC Governing Board Names Mason VanHouweling Interim CEO

University Medical Center’s Governing Board has named Mason VanHouweling Interim CEO.
“Since Mason’s arrival, he has been an inspiring and effective UMC leader, responsible for numerous significant changes for UMC,” said UMC Governing Board Chairman John O’Reilly. “With Mason, quality patient care comes first as he works to build new volume and key service lines while cutting expenses to taxpayers.”

Mason has served as Chief Operating Officer at UMC since April, as well as two other for-profit hospitals in Southern Nevada in the past. Mason’s experience in healthcare leadership roles extends to both coasts, focusing on business development and financial operations.

“Mason has the perfect blend of appreciating fiscal responsibility with excellent clinical outcomes and patient care,” said O’Reilly. “We are proud to have Mason leading our team at this great academic medical center.
In addition to his leadership role at UMC, Mason currently serves as a Healthcare Administrator for the United States Air Force Reserves.

“It’s an honor to be able to lead such a fine team at UMC who have dedicated themselves to caring for our patients who are recovering from life-threatening illness and incredible injuries,” said VanHouweling. “We will always put quality care first as we continue to fiscally strengthen UMC, ensuring our vitality as Nevada’s premier academic medical center.”
