UMC Governing Board Names Mason VanHouweling Chief Executive Officer

University Medical Center’s Governing Board has named Mason VanHouweling the Chief Executive Officer of UMC.

“Our Governing Board’s decision today was unanimous in favor of permanently appointing Mason to lead UMC into our future,” said UMC Governing Board Chairman John O’Reilly. “Mason’s background is very impressive as is the service he has provided thus far to UMC. Mason is recognized and distinguished as a Board Certified Fellow with the American College of Healthcare Executives, a Healthcare Administrator for the United States Air Force Reserves and as a hospital executive in our Clark County community and across the nation. We could have searched a long time to find a leader of his caliber and his experience who not only has extensive experience and relationships in the world of health care but also extensive experience and relationships in our community and with our UMC.”

Mason has served as Chief Operating Officer at UMC since April, as well as two other for-profit hospitals in Southern Nevada. His experience in healthcare leadership roles extends to both coasts, focusing on operations of the hospitals as well as business development and financial responsibility.

“We are fortunate and privileged to have Mason at the helm of UMC,” said O’Reilly.

“I am honored to be able to lead such a fine group of caring professionals at UMC. Our great community and visitors from abroad depend on UMC for our exclusive Trauma and Burn Centers, our Children’s Hospital and Transplant Center. Those service lines are a strong foundation for us to develop into the premier academic medical center in Nevada,” said VanHouweling. “Quality patient care will always be our first priority as we provide cutting edge technology while remaining fiscally responsible to taxpayers. When our community looks back at this time in UMC’s history, it will be known as the renaissance of UMC, supported by our Governing Board and Clark County Commissioners who serve as our Board of Trustees, to not only sustain UMC but enable us to thrive into the future.”
