Healthy Living Institute

The Healthy Living Institute at University Medical Center opened in the spring of 2016.  University Medical Center recognizes the importance of a healthy community and by opening The Healthy Living Institute, we are committing to improving the health and wellbeing of southern Nevada.  We are dedicated to bringing learning opportunities that improve, promote and restore the quality of life in our community.  We offer a wealth of knowledge with our professional associates and staff.  Our quarterly magazine will bring ideas for healthy living and wellness activities that you can participate in.  There is something for everyone. 

Wellbeing is not only one’s physical health; it is the ability for one to find a balance in body, mind and spirit – the whole person.  Our goal is to provide information and guidance in creating a healthy lifestyle using integrative healing practices and evidence based healthcare.  The Healthy Living Institute promotes health and wellness through the entire life span, in a welcoming supportive environment. 

We invite you to join us on a journey to wellbeing.  The Healthy Living Institute has speakers, activities and events in the community promoting healthy lifestyles.  We have yoga, healthy eating, and art therapy, just to name a few.  We hope to see you at the center and at community events. 

The Healthy Living Institute at UMC has adopted the Senior Celebration and Baby Steps programs and staff in order to continue to offer the great services to which you are accustomed. 

Senior Celebrations celebrates adults 50 years and better! Educational opportunities on health related topics, health screenings and activities are included in the HLI calendar.  

Car Seat Inspections: The Healthy Living Institute is proud to offer free car seat education and inspections with certified technicians. Please call for more information and your personal educational session and inspection.

UMC sponsors and participates in community events to promote the health and wellness of our Southern Nevada community. In addition, UMC offers classes on a variety of health-related topics. Classes are open to the public and most are free. All that we ask is that you call to reserve space so we have enough materials for everyone.

9/7/2018Stepping OnFreeStepping On We are pleased to be bringing the Stepping On Program to The Healthy Living Institute. The goal of this 7 week series of workshops, is to build confidence and reduce falls. We work with trained health and community care facilitators and professionals on things such as: leg balance and strength exercises, coping with visual loss, visual screening, medication management, home safety, and safety in the community. 9/15/2018Childbirth ClassFreeChildbirth Classes This all-day six-hour class is designed to educate parents about the birth process. Expectant parents are encouraged to complete their childbirth classes in the seventh or eighth month of pregnancy. This class is no cost if you are delivering at UMC. 9/18/2018Infant & Child CPR$10 depositInfant & Child CPR - AHA Friends & Family The American Heart Association Friends and Family class teaches family members how to be life-savers by teaching infant and child CPR skills. This class requires a $10 deposit, which will be refunded to you when you attend the class. Must register in person. Learn techniques for handling left turns, right-of-way and roundabouts while discovering proven driving methods to help keep you and your loved ones safe on the road. By taking the class, you may be eligible for up to three years of auto insurance discounts*. Class fees: $15 for AARP members; $20 for non-members. Payment is to be by check made out to AARP or by cash only.
