Message from the Medical Director

UMC Children’s Hospital is celebrating the one year anniversary of our Grand Opening. UMC has been caring for the children of southern Nevada for decades, and last year, we created a hospital just for children, UMC Children’s Hospital.

Over the past year, we’ve taken care of about 40,000 children. Whether those children have come through our Emergency Department to fix a broken arm, or have been isolated in our Critical Intensive Care Unit to recover from a life threatening illness, our patients receive an unparalleled level of care.

As further testimony to our commitment and services, Children’s Hospital of Nevada fulfilled the stringent membership criteria set by the National Association of Children’s Hospitals and Related Institutions (NACHRI), and we are proud to announce that UMC Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in Nevada to be accepted as an associate member of this prestigious association. UMC Children’s Hospital is a nonprofit, academic medical center dedicated to providing comprehensive quality care to southern Nevada.

If your child is hurt or injured, know that UMC Children’s Hospital has board certified pediatric emergency room physicians on day and night. No matter the time, one of our doctors, specially trained to take care of your child will see them, and our “door-to-doctor” time is fast, averaging 18 minutes.

If your child’s illness requires an extended stay, our Pediatric Intensivists are also here around the clock, and they are Board Certified and Fellowship Trained to take care of young patients.

Additionally, UMC Children’s Hospital is home to the only Burn Care Center and Transplant Center in the state. UMC Children’s Hospital is the only hospital in Nevada to offer a dedicated Pediatric Sedation Unit, so procedures aren’t as frightening for our patients. Additionally, if your child is traumatically injured, UMC Children’s Hospital is the only Level II Pediatric Trauma Center in the state.

As a parent, I understand how precious your children are. As a Pediatric Critical Care Physician, I am proud to offer the finest children’s services found anywhere in Nevada.Dr. Meena Vohra is a mother of two, and Medical Director of UMC Children’s Hospital.
